Joan Prittie is a Part-Time Lecturer at the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), Department of Public Administration and Policy, where she contributes to teaching and research in nonprofit management, domestic violence law, and public policy advocacy. As Executive Director of Project Safe since 1999, she advocates for survivors of domestic violence and has developed policy frameworks for judicial responses to domestic violence through her work on the Georgia Domestic Violence Bench Book (since 2010). Her legal background includes representing indigent inmates in Georgia prisons and co-founding the Battered Women’s Clemency Project, securing critical legal outcomes for marginalized individuals.
Her scholarly and practical work intersects with public administration, legal advocacy, and nonprofit leadership. Joan received the School of Social Work MA Nonprofit Management & Leadership Teacher of the Year award in 2017, highlighting her impact in education. She is actively involved in civic organizations, serving as a board member for Books for Keeps and as Elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church, while maintaining a personal life centered on travel and animal rescue.
