Dr. Joan Chang is a Research Fellow in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Function at the University of Manchester's Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. She leads research on matrix homeostasis and circadian regulation of collagen biology, currently serving as Principal Investigator for the project 'New paradigms in fibroblasts and immune cells coordinate in matrix homeostasis in health and disease' (2022-2027).
Education includes:
- PhD from The Institute of Cancer Research (University of London)
- BSc from Imperial College London
Her research investigates:
- Circadian control of collagen biosynthesis and degradation
- Fibroblast-immune cell interactions in matrix remodeling
- Molecular mechanisms of fibrillogenesis and fibrosis
- Developmental aspects of extracellular matrix assembly
Publications demonstrate strong focus on:
- Chronobiological regulation of ECM components
- High-resolution analysis of collagen dynamics
- Intersections between circadian biology and matrix pathology
- Translational applications in antiviral therapy
Awards include:
- MRC Early Career Impact Prize (2024)
Dr. Chang is currently accepting PhD students for projects on:
- Propeptide regions of collagen-I regulation
- Myeloid cells in matrix homeostasis
She collaborates extensively through the Wellcome Centre for Cell-Matrix Research and Centre for Biological Timing, with international partnerships spanning Europe and North America.
