Joachim Heberle

Professor Joachim Heberle is a faculty member at the Free University of Berlin, affiliated with the Department of Physics and Institute of Experimental Physics at Arnimallee 14, Berlin. He maintains an active research program with significant funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG).

His research focuses on protein dynamics and membrane transport mechanisms using advanced spectroscopic techniques. Professor Heberle's work centers on protonation dynamics, ion channel function, and structural changes in optogenetic proteins. His laboratory employs vibrational spectroscopy, FTIR methods, and single-molecule imaging to investigate fundamental biological processes at the molecular level.

Professor Heberle has led numerous research projects including the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1078 'Protein function through protonation dynamics' as speaker, and currently participates in EXC 2008 'Unifying Systems in Catalysis' (UniSysCat) as part of a Cluster of Excellence. His research spans membrane protein structure-function relationships, anion transport mechanisms, and light-sensitive biological systems.

As evidenced by his extensive project portfolio, Professor Heberle maintains a strong research presence with both completed and ongoing projects in Collaborative Research Centers, demonstrating sustained contributions to biophysical chemistry and molecular spectroscopy.
