Dr. JoAndrea Costner serves as Chair of the BSN Programs and Assistant Professor at the Presbyterian School of Nursing, Queens University of Charlotte, where she also holds the role of Clinical Education Coordinator. She began her nursing career in 1995 after earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC-Charlotte. During her clinical practice at Mercy Hospital, she completed a Master of Science in Nursing with a Community Health focus (1999). Her academic career includes 14 years teaching Fundamentals of Nursing at Mercy School of Nursing (2000-2014) before joining Queens in 2015.
Her educational background includes:
- Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Capella University (2019)
- MSN in Community Health, UNC-Charlotte (1999)
- BSN, UNC-Charlotte (1995)
Dr. Costner's research focuses on nursing pedagogy and population health. She has developed innovative courses including Queens Health and Wellness and the RN-MSN Population Health track. Her expertise spans:
- Community Health Nursing clinical instruction
- Professional nursing concepts
- Curriculum design for nursing education
As Clinical Education Coordinator, she oversees practical training components and advises undergraduate nursing students in the BSN program.
