Dr. Jo Loomis is an Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions, specializing in primary care, women's health, and simulation-based education. She holds certifications in lactation, menopause, and healthcare simulation, and has pioneered simulation methodologies for nurse practitioner (NP) education. Her work focuses on integrating simulation into clinical training, particularly in resource-limited settings and interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Loomis has developed curricula such as clinical laboratory courses for NP students and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) to evaluate student competencies.
Education: DNP - University of Minnesota, MSN - San Jose State University, BSN - University of Missouri. She has taught courses including Physical Assessment, Evidence-Based Scholarship, and Maternity Simulation.
Research interests include simulation in healthcare education, nurse practitioner clinical training, and addressing health disparities through community partnerships. Her recent work explores telehealth applications for heart failure readmission reduction, CHW programs for birth outcomes, and culturally sensitive cervical cancer prevention.
Committee roles include Co-chair of the Joint University Curriculum Committee and Chair of the SONHP Curriculum Committee. She has authored over 15 peer-reviewed articles, including winning the 2017 Shirley A. Smoyak Award for her work on compassion teaching through simulation.
