Jo Lampert

Jo Lampert is Professor of Teacher Education for Social Transformation in the School of Education, Culture & Society at Monash University’s Faculty of Education. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology and a member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts (2025–2028). Her work bridges research, policy, and practice in social justice-oriented teacher education.

Jo Lampert’s research focuses on preparing teachers to address educational inequalities, particularly in hard-to-staff schools across Australia. Her expertise lies in social justice, teacher education, Indigenous education, co-design with communities, and the lived experiences of educators in high-need contexts. She has led major national programs such as the National Exceptional Teaching for Disadvantaged Schools (2010–2018) and the Victorian Nexus program (2019–2023), both of which have significantly influenced teacher education reform.

Her recent publications analyze teacher shortages, retention, policy challenges, and mentoring dynamics in underserved schools. These works reflect a consistent focus on systemic equity, teacher wellbeing, and community-based solutions. Her research is funded by the Australian Research Council and other national bodies, and she collaborates closely with First Nations communities, government agencies, and schools.

Jo Lampert has received notable recognition, including her role as Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford Encyclopedia of Critical Perspectives in Education and membership in the ARC College of Experts. She has served on the board of the Australian Association for Research in Education and is a sought-after keynote speaker and media commentator.

She advises on multiple ARC-funded projects and leads the Transforming Teacher Education for Social Impact Research and Scholarship group. She also co-leads the Education for the Future Impact Lab at Monash University, which drives research with real-world impact. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
