Jo Burgess is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds. She is affiliated with the Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change and teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Her research focuses on vocational education and training, gender segregation in employment, youth career formation, and the intersection of social inequalities. She explores how young people navigate career paths in highly gender-segregated sectors, drawing on her extensive experience in the Further Education sector.
Jo Burgess previously worked for fourteen years as a teacher and manager in Further Education, overseeing diverse programs including vocational education for 14–16-year-olds, the International Baccalaureate Diploma, and foundational support in English, maths, and learning.
She supervises MA and undergraduate dissertations and serves as a personal tutor for students at both levels, contributing significantly to student education within the Business School.
Her work is supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), underpinning her PhD research on gender and inequality in vocational training.
