She holds a PhD from the University of Reading (2016), an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from Birkbeck College, University of London (2011), and a BSc in Psychology from the University of Bath (2005). Prior to UEA, she was a lecturer at De Montfort University and conducted a NASA-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Houston studying resilience in extreme environments.
Her research focuses on bidirectional associations between sleep, emotion regulation, and mental health, with special attention to adolescence and extreme environments. Key interests include sleep’s role in mental health development, resilience in isolated settings, and menstrual cycle impacts on emotional wellbeing. She co-leads the Sleep and Brain Research Unit and co-founded the Sleep and Insomnia Network of East Anglia.
Her most recent work explores sleep-emotion interactions across the menstrual cycle, systematic reviews of sleep loss effects, and mental health assessment tools. Articles often address clinical applications of sleep research, particularly in youth and space environments. She advises PhD students on sleep-emotion-mental health projects and collaborates internationally on projects funded by NASA and other agencies.
