Faith Orchard holds the position of Lecturer in Psychology at the University of East Anglia’s School of Psychology, alongside roles as Visiting Lecturer at the University of Sussex and University College London. She completed her PhD at the University of Reading, investigating clinical characteristics of adolescent depression and sleep-depression relationships. Her research focuses on causal factors of child/adolescent anxiety/depression, emphasizing prevention and early intervention. Key areas include sleep-anxiety-depression pathways, school-based interventions (e.g., Mental Health Support Teams), and self-perceptions’ role in adolescent depression.
Academic background includes a PhD from the University of Reading (2016) and postdoctoral work there. She co-leads the MHST Research Clinic and participates in the Sleep and Insomnia Network of East Anglia. Current projects funded by the Medical Research Council, National Institute for Health and Care Research, and Economic and Social Research Council examine school-based sleep interventions in Uganda, psychological interventions for voice distress in schools, and cognitive mechanisms linking adolescent sleep and depression.
Her work spans 37 peer-reviewed publications, with recent studies focusing on school mental health service characteristics, self-perception in depression, and sleep therapy outcomes for anxiety. She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Experimental Psychopathology and Guest Editor for the British Journal of Clinical Psychology. Additional roles include External Examiner for Royal Holloway’s Clinical Psychology Doctorate and ESRC grant reviewing.
Research collaborations emphasize cross-cultural validation of mental health assessments (e.g., Thai Mood and Feelings Questionnaire) and innovative interventions like the ECHOES voice distress protocol. Her grants total £2.4M (as of 2024), supporting both clinical trials and global school-based initiatives.
