Dr Jingqi Zhu is a Senior Lecturer in International Business at the University of Liverpool Management School, a position she has held since September 2020. Previously, she was a Lecturer at Newcastle University Business School. Her research focuses on the globalization of services and its societal, organizational, and employment impacts from a sociological perspective, with particular attention to professional service sectors and IT offshore outsourcing in China and other contexts.
Her educational background includes a doctoral degree from Cardiff University.
Dr Zhu's research spans three main areas: (1) Globalisation and professional service firms, examining how globalisation shapes work and organisation in firms like the Big 4 accounting firms and Chinese law firms; (2) Internationalisation of Chinese firms, studying their global expansion, management practices, and impacts on work and employment; (3) Work and employment in global supply chains, particularly in service outsourcing. Her work often adopts a comparative institutional approach across national contexts.
Her publications, appearing in top journals such as Human Relations and Accounting, Organizations and Society, consistently explore the interplay between institutions, globalisation, and professional service organisations, with a strong emphasis on China. She has also contributed to understanding migrant worker management and the production of legal elites in China.
Dr Zhu serves as the Deputy Chair of the Undergraduate Board of Examiners in the School and is an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Professions and Organization. She has also undertaken PhD examination roles at several universities including the University of Glasgow and Royal Holloway, University of London.
