Dr. Fengzhi Zhu is a Lecturer in Accounting at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, joining in 2023 after earning her PhD from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She also holds a MRes and Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from the same institution.

Research Interests
Dr. Zhu's research focuses on the determinant, properties and consequences of firms' disclosures, with a particular emphasis on narrative disclosures. She employs natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) techniques to extract information from unstructured open-source disclosures. As an expert in accounting conservatism, she also explores firms' diversity, equity and inclusion disclosures.
Academic Service and Supervision
Dr. Zhu serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several prestigious journals including the FARS Midyear Conferences, Accounting and Business Research, British Accounting Review, European Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, International Journal of Disclosure and Governance and Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting. She currently supervises one PhD student, Fatema Salem Alyafei, whose thesis examines the consequences of mandatory iXBRL adoption.
Professional Affiliations
She is an active member of the European Accounting Association, the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, the American Accounting Association, and the Accounting and Economics Society. Additionally, she is part of the School's Accounting research cluster.
