Jina Fast is an Assistant Professor in the Applied Ethics and the Common Good department at Hampshire College. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and women's and gender studies from Temple University. As a feminist epistemologist, queer theorist, and critical philosopher of race, Dr. Fast centers theories produced by marginalized communities in her research and teaching.
Her scholarly work spans critical race theory, gender studies, and applied ethics, with a focus on decolonizing philosophical traditions. She is currently completing two books: Decolonizing Existentialism and Phenomenology: The Liberation of Philosophies of Freedom and Identity (2023) and the edited collection The Marcusean Mind (2024). Her courses explore themes like transnational feminisms, reproductive justice, and the intersection of art and politics in creating community change.
Dr. Fast's pedagogy emphasizes praxis, integrating theory, practice, and reflection. Her recent courses examine social justice frameworks, ethical implications of sexuality, and the philosophical dimensions of beauty and creativity. She engages students through project-based learning, critical theory, and intersectional analysis, particularly focusing on anti-racism, queer theory, and postcolonial narratives.
