Jimena Laporta is Assistant Professor of Lactation Physiology in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research examines mammary gland development and function, particularly how prenatal heat stress impacts lactation performance through epigenetic mechanisms.
Research focuses on:
- Mammary gland responses to hyperthermia
- Serotonin signaling in lactation regulation
- Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance
- Perinatal metabolic programming
Dr. Laporta teaches courses including Lactation Physiology (ANS/DYSCI 378) and Advanced Physiology (ANS/DYSCI 875). Her published work predominantly investigates thermal stress impacts across biological scales, from cellular signaling to production outcomes. Recent trainees include PhD graduate Sena L. Field (2023).
Laboratory investigations focus on thermophysiological adaptations in dairy cattle, mammary epigenetics, and interventions for heat stress mitigation. Contact: jlaporta@wisc.edu.
