Krešimir Salajpal is a Full Professor at the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, specializing in animal physiology, nutrition, and genetic trait analysis for over two decades.
His academic qualifications include:
- Ph.D. (2005-2007) from University of Zagreb on MC4R/RYR1 gene polymorphisms and stress response in pigs
- M.Sc. (2002-2005) from University of Zagreb on stress levels in genetically diverse pigs
- mag.ing (1997-2002) from University of Zagreb on dairy cow blood biochemistry
- DVM (1994-2001) from University of Zagreb Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on mammary gland inflammation
His research integrates applied physiology with genomic technologies to address meat quality, stress adaptation, and sustainable production systems. Key focus areas include nutrigenomics, lactation biology, and genetic evaluation for carcass traits, particularly investigating how major genes influence physiological responses in livestock.
Professor Salajpal actively contributes to Horizon 2020 initiatives including the GENEMOM project (2021-2026) on epigenome-enabled breeding and the local breed diversity project (2015-2019). He has coordinated national projects such as the 'Banijske šare' pig breed revitalization (2015-2017), drought impact studies on dairy cows (2012-2014), and university-funded research on cattle archaeogenetics and milk standardization models.
His teaching portfolio encompasses 14 courses including Physiology of Stress and Adaptation, Meat Quality Evaluation, Animal Nutrigenomics, and Precision Feeding of Ruminants, reflecting his expertise in digestive biology, reproduction, and production technologies across multiple livestock species.
