Amy Skibiel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal, Veterinary and Food Sciences at the University of Idaho, within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Her research focuses on lactation physiology, maternal effects, and environmental interactions with animal performance.
- Ph.D., Auburn University (2012)
- M.S., Auburn University (2007)
- B.S., Juniata College (2003)
Skibiel’s work examines how environmental stressors like heat and wildfire smoke impact mammary gland physiology, epigenetic programming, and offspring health in dairy cattle. She employs multidisciplinary approaches spanning evolutionary biology, dairy production, and human health.
Recent publications highlight her investigations into wildfire smoke effects on cattle behavior and metabolism, heat stress impacts on mitochondrial bioenergetics, and Y-chromosome genomic divergences in livestock species. She serves as a Principal Investigator in the Lactation and Environmental Physiology Lab, integrating observational and experimental methods to study physiological adaptations in mammals.
