Jim Neighbors is Professor in the Department of English and Co-coordinator of the African/African American Studies Program at Wofford College. He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in English from the University of Washington.
His research and teaching focus on Black cultural production in the United States, antiracism frameworks, and ethical dimensions of literature. Specific interests include Black detective fiction, queer literature, and the Black Arts Movement. He has developed unique pedagogical approaches integrating social justice education with literary analysis.
Courses taught include: Humanities 101: Antiracism; English 102: Black Women Detective Fiction; English 320: Black Literature and Culture; English 427: Queer Black Literature; and interdisciplinary travel courses to Japan, Spain, and Italy.
