Jim Forrest is an Associate Professor and Honorary Associate Professor at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture. His research focuses on geographies of advantage/disadvantage, electoral behavior, and ethnic group disadvantage. He is actively involved in urban geography education, contributing to HSC syllabus development, and serves as President of the N.S.W. Geographical Society.

- Racism geographies and social inequality
- Election geography and political behavior
- Language retention in immigrant communities
Recent work explores language shift patterns in Sydney's multicultural context and anti-racism strategies. His publications analyze ethnic minority residential patterns and voting dynamics in Australia.
He leads or collaborates on projects like the DLUA (2023-2026) investigating language demographics and the Multilingualism Research Centre (2019-2022).
