Dr. Jillian Newton is a Research Fellow and Contract Research and Consultancy Lead at Sheffield Hallam University's Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre and Industry and Innovation Research Institute. She specializes in mass spectrometry imaging techniques (MALDI, DESI, ICP) and multimodal data integration. Her work bridges academia, industry, NHS trusts, and charities to solve complex scientific challenges. She co-leads the Sheffield Multimodal Imaging Centre (SMIC) and organizes conferences for the British Mass Spectrometry Society. She teaches Mass Spectrometry Training and advises MSc/MRes students in the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences.
Research projects include Colgate-Palmolive’s skin microbiome studies on Atopic Dermatitis and bladder cancer investigations (INVEST project). Collaborations span institutions like Leeds University, Sheffield University, and Australian National University, supported by UKRI and BBSRC grants.
