Jill Ehnenn is a Professor and Chair in the Department of English & Film Studies at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on Victorian Studies, queer theory, feminist theory, and critical disability studies, with a specialization in the collaborative works of 'Michael Field' (Katharine Bradley and Edith Cooper). She has authored two books, Michael Field's Revisionary Poetics (2023) and Women’s Literary Collaboration, Queerness, and Late-Victorian Culture (2008), and edited several special journal issues. Her current projects include a biography of Michael Field and a monograph on ekphrasis in 19th-century literature. She advises graduate students in these areas.
Ehnenn’s work interrogates intersections of gender, sexuality, and disability in Victorian literary and visual culture. Her scholarship employs intersectional approaches, blending historical and formalist methodologies. Recent articles address ekphrasis, queer readings of Victorian texts, and disability in poetry. She is also a key contributor to the digital transcription of Michael Field’s diaries, held at the British Library.
Her research spans topics like Victorian ekphrasis, queer reinterpretations of classic texts, and the role of women’s collaborative authorship. She emphasizes feminist methodological innovation and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural critique.
