Jie Chen is Professor of Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds. He joined Leeds in August 2018 as an Associate Professor and was previously a Lecturer at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Bristol (2014).
His research centers on empirical corporate finance and governance, with a focus on:
- Executive compensation and board structures
- Corporate innovation and social responsibility
- Behavioral finance, including managerial overconfidence and gender diversity
- Dividend policies, mergers and acquisitions, and banking
Jie aims to bridge academic research with real-world corporate practices, promoting sustainable value creation, ethical governance, and societal well-being through evidence-based insights.
He is affiliated with the International Banking Institute and actively contributes to research supervision and advanced teaching in finance.

Advising and Grants: Jie supervises doctoral and Master’s students in corporate finance and governance topics, including executive compensation, non-financial stakeholders, board dynamics, and CSR. He also teaches advanced finance, financial derivatives, and investment management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Labs and Research Groups: He is a member of the International Banking Institute at the University of Leeds, contributing to collaborative research in banking and finance.
