Jianing Kong is a Professor of Piano at the Royal College of Music (RCM) and has been part of the piano faculty since 2011. He also teaches at the Purcell School. Known for his international performances, he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Hallé Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre Royal de Chambre Wollone. His repertoire emphasizes classical and 19th-century works, including Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and Mozart concertos.
Education: Studied at the Purcell School with Ronald Smith, then at the RCM under Ruth Nye, Gordon Fergus-Thompson, and Prof. Dmitri Alexeev. Mentored by Fou Ts’ong. Awards include multiple international competition prizes, notably the Sydney International Competition 2016 where he received the Ignaz Friedman Prize and Best Classical Concerto Prize.
Recent activities include extensive tours across Europe, Asia, and New Zealand, and an ongoing project to record Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas and chamber music. He has performed at venues like the Wigmore Hall and Castelton Festival Theatre.
Teaching focuses on piano pedagogy and historical performance practices, complementing his active performance career.
