Jian Zhao is an Assistant Professor in the Michael W. Hall School of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo (2019), an M.S. from Tianjin University (2013), and a B.S. from Dalian University of Technology (2010). His research focuses on advancing green energy technologies, including electrochemical energy conversion, thermochemical energy storage, and carbon capture, utilizing computational fluid dynamics and machine learning. He serves as a Guest Editor for Energy and Frontiers in Thermal Engineering, and is a Board Member of the International Association for Green Energy.
Key research interests include advanced energy systems, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, and durability under automotive conditions. Zhao has authored over 50 publications, including book chapters on fuel cell durability and control-oriented models. His work bridges experimental analysis with computational modeling to enhance energy system efficiency and sustainability.
Awards include the 2022 and 2021 Best Reviewer Awards from the International Journal of Green Energy, and a Teaching Assistant Excellence Award (2018). He has held postdoctoral roles at Mississippi State University and the University of Waterloo, contributing to projects in vehicular systems and advanced energy storage.
