Jiacheng Liu is an Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of History at the University of Northern Colorado, affiliated with the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. He specializes in modern Chinese social and cultural history, particularly urban history, theater performance, and gender studies. His research explores topics such as gender roles in early 20th-century Beijing, merchant guilds in Qing-era Hankow, and the intersection of theater with political and social dynamics in China. Liu holds a Ph.D. in History from Carnegie Mellon University, with prior academic appointments at Carnegie Mellon (2015-2016).

He has contributed to journals such as Critical Asian Studies and Modern China, and has translated significant academic works on Chinese cultural history.
Liu’s publications reflect a focus on marginalized voices and transformative cultural phenomena. His translational work includes co-translating Commerce in Culture: The Sibao Book Trade and Ritual, Standardization, and Chinese Culture, bridging Western and Chinese academic discourse.
