Jessie Cortez is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University's College of Engineering. She holds a PhD candidacy in English Rhetoric and Composition from Texas A&M, an M.A. in English Composition and Rhetoric from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a B.A. in English from McNeese State University.
Her interdisciplinary research examines technical and scientific communication practices, rhetorical strategies in knowledge dissemination, and pedagogical approaches to science communication. Research interests specifically include rhetoric of science, technical writing pedagogy, and science and technology studies.
Dr. Cortez has been recognized for academic excellence through several awards including the Graduate Diversity Excellence Fellowship at Texas A&M and graduate awards from UNC Charlotte. Her publication record addresses innovative teaching methodologies using digital platforms like Wikipedia to develop comprehensive editing skills.
