Jennifer J. Buckner

Dr. Jennifer J. Buckner is an Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Professor of English at Gardner-Webb University, where she also coordinates the Composition Studies program. She earned her BA and MA in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a PhD in English Studies (Writing, Rhetoric, and New Media) from Old Dominion University. Her career began as a high school English teacher in North Carolina, recognized as Teacher of the Year (2003) before joining Gardner-Webb in 2007.

Her research focuses on writing pedagogy, multimodality, soundwriting, and accessibility. She has directed Gardner-Webb’s Writing Center for eight years and served as Chair of the English department (2017–2021). Her scholarly work challenges traditional notions of sound and accessibility, often blending autoethnography with multimodal formats.

Advising & Leadership: Advises capstone projects in undergraduate and graduate programs. Serves as editorial collective member for the Journal of Undergraduate Multimedia Projects (JUMP+) since 2019. Her teaching includes courses on rhetorical grammar, visual rhetoric, new media studies, and the pedagogy of writing.

Labs/Teams: Leads Composition Studies initiatives and collaborates on soundwriting pedagogies through interdisciplinary projects with students and colleagues.
