Jessica Vivian serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Monmouth College, a position she has held since 2014. Additionally, she coordinates the Women’s Studies Minor program.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. in Liberal Arts Honors from the University of Texas at Austin
- Master’s in Regional Planning from Cornell University
- Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University
Dr. Vivian's research centers on social and economic justice, exploring policy design and implementation to advance these principles. Her interdisciplinary approach combines economics and politics, with a focus on development studies, international relations, and gender studies. This perspective is enriched by her fieldwork in Kiribati, Sudan, and Zimbabwe.
In her role as Women’s Studies Minor Coordinator, she shapes the program's academic direction. Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as The Politics of Public Policy, Comparative Politics, and Development Policies and Interventions. Notably, she has also taught within the Illinois state prison system, demonstrating a commitment to accessible education.
