Jessica Richter is a Lecturer at the Department of Economic and Social History, University of Vienna (Universität Wien), located at Universitätsring 1, Vienna. She specializes in labor history, gender history, migration studies, and Austrian socio-economic dynamics, with a focus on domestic service, household labor, and class hierarchies from the 19th to mid-20th century. Recent teaching includes courses on Household, Family, and Livelihood (1880–1960) and Women’s and Gender History (Work and Gender).
Her research examines labor regulation in agriculture and domestic sectors, migration policies affecting non-national workers, and gendered dimensions of work. Notable works include studies on domestic service disputes in interwar Austria and legal frameworks shaping seasonal farm labor. Richter’s work blends archival analysis with oral histories, particularly focusing on domestic workers’ lived experiences.
Publications span topics like migrant gardeners’ legal conflicts, post-war Austrian labor crises, and the intersection of gender and employment. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges social, legal, and economic history, contributing to debates on labor rights and social stratification.
