Jessica Lewis

Jessica Lewis, Ph.D., MFT is a Research Scientist at the Yale School of Medicine in the Department of General Internal Medicine. She also serves as Deputy Director for the Center for Community Engagement and Health Equity at the Yale Cancer Center and is a Board Member of the Dean's Advisory Council for LGBTQI+ Affairs at Yale University.

Dr. Lewis has directed research on health behaviors, health equity, and women's sexual, reproductive, and mental health at Yale for more than 29 years. Her research investigates the interplay of complex biomedical, behavioral, social, and structural factors that influence individual, family, and community health, with a focus on marginalized populations.

Dr. Lewis is co-founder of Expect With Me, a technology-enabled group model of prenatal care that has demonstrated significant improvements in maternal-child health outcomes. Her work spans multiple disciplines including women's health, maternal & child health, mental health, reproduction, poverty and economic security, perinatal/prenatal health, health equity, and social determinants of health.

Dr. Lewis has authored 75 peer-reviewed publications focusing on group prenatal care, health disparities, and innovative healthcare models. Her recent work examines resilience factors, social support, food insecurity, and discrimination in relation to maternal and child health outcomes, with publications appearing in prestigious journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and Preventive Medicine.

Dr. Lewis has extensive experience directing large multi-site research projects with methodological rigor and cultural sensitivity. She serves as an Editor for the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and as an External Reviewer for PCORI (2024-2025).
