Jessica Jane Julius

Jessica Jane Julius serves as Associate Professor and Program Head of Glass at Temple University's Tyler School of Art and Architecture. Her interdisciplinary practice spans artistic creation, education, and leadership as current Board President of the Glass Arts Society.

Her research examines the "culture of fear" through glass installations that investigate anxiety, perception, and technology interfaces. Key themes include tactile experience in digital contexts, material semiotics, and sustainable practices in glass art, recently manifested in the Frankenthaler-funded electric furnace transition project.

Julius's artistic output reveals evolving focus from early explorations of bodily perception (e.g., HYBRID, 2006) toward immersive fear-based installations (Between Now and Now, 2021), culminating in current sustainability initiatives and edible performance works. Her work consistently bridges material experimentation with conceptual frameworks around information systems and sensory experience.

As co-founder of The Burnt Asphalt Family collective, Julius produces collaborative edible performances exhibited at Corning Museum of Glass and UrbanGlass. Current projects include the 2025 UrbanGlass Crafting Mastery Education Symposium advisory role and Arts and Quality of Life Conference lecture on resilience in making.

Julius maintains active studio practice through residencies and exhibitions nationally, with works held in collections including Philadelphia Museum of Art and Museum of American Glass. Her upcoming 2025 solo exhibition "A Madeleine Moment" at UrbanGlass continues her investigation of memory triggers through participatory performance.
