Jessica Howell is a Professor at Texas A&M University, specializing in Victorian Literature and Health Humanities. Her research explores intersections of health, race, gender, and colonialism in 19th-century literatures of empire.

Recent publications emphasize global health disparities, postcolonial critiques of colonial medical narratives, and interdisciplinary approaches to epidemics in literature. She co-edited the Global Health Humanities special issue for Medical Humanities (2022) and authored two monographs on malaria and Victorian travel literature.
