Jessica Boyall is a PhD candidate and Visiting Tutor in the Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her doctoral research, funded by the AHRC (TECHNE), examines women's representation in Ceddo Film and Video Workshop, Sankofa Film and Video Collective, and Black Audio Film Collective. She also holds a Paul Mellon Research Grant for this work. Her research interests span film history, digital culture, feminism, and collective artistic practices.
Boyall has professional affiliations including the Victoria and Albert Museum (research on Charles Dickens manuscripts), London’s Design Museum (exhibition catalog editing), and StoryFutures Academy (VR documentary project Off the Record). She is currently Cultural Projects Manager at Ormside Projects, managing Arts Council-funded initiatives.
Her academic credentials include an MA (Distinction) in History of Design from the Royal College of Art and a First-Class Undergraduate Master’s in Classical Studies from the University of Edinburgh.
Boyall’s writing appears in New Left Review, Third Text, Public Domain Review, Mubi’s Notebook, and The Guardian. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals focused on cultural preservation and gender equality.
