Jesse Woodson is an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona's School of Plant Sciences, focusing on plant organelle signaling and stress responses. His research explores how chloroplasts and mitochondria signal cellular stress, with applications in improving crop resilience. He holds a B.A. from Earlham College, a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and completed a postdoc at the Salk Institute.
His work centers on chloroplast quality control mechanisms, particularly the degradation of damaged chloroplasts via ubiquitination and singlet oxygen signaling. He investigates how these pathways influence plant growth, stress tolerance, and cellular fate. Teaching includes courses on plant physiology and advanced topics in plant science.
Recent publications emphasize transdisciplinary approaches to sustainable agriculture and the molecular underpinnings of chloroplast stress signaling. His lab uses genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry to dissect signaling networks and their roles in plant adaptation.
