Monika Murcha's research explores mitochondrial biogenesis mechanisms in plants, including protein targeting to mitochondria and chloroplasts, assembly of oxidative phosphorylation complexes, and proteolytic regulation under stress conditions. Her work utilizes Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism to study:

• Regulation of mitochondrial activity

• Protease functions in organelles
