Dr. Jesse Cromwell is an Associate Professor of Colonial Latin American History and Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of History at the University of Mississippi. His research focuses on contradictions between political and human geographies in the Atlantic world, particularly through studies of illicit trade, migration, and imperial networks.
Education: Ph.D. in History from the University of Texas at Austin (2012).
Expertise: Latin American history, Caribbean history, Atlantic history, Maritime history, piracy, and commodities.
Research Projects:
- Study of Canary Island migration to the Spanish Caribbean (18th century)
- History of alcohol consumption in the Spanish Caribbean
Awards:
- 2019 RMCLAS Bandelier-Lavrín Prize
- SHAA Murdo MacLeod Prize Honorable Mention
Teaching includes courses on Colonial Latin America, Caribbean History, and Pirates of the Early Modern Caribbean.
