Dr. Jeremy Knox is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Education and Co-Programme Director of the Digital Education Programme at the University of Edinburgh's Moray House School of Education and Sport. He co-directs the Centre for Research in Digital Education (Data Society) and holds affiliations with the Institute for Education, Community & Society (IECS). His research focuses on critical posthumanism, new materialism, and their implications for digital education, particularly in relation to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs).
Knox holds a PhD in Education from the University of Edinburgh (2014), an MSc in E-Learning with Distinction (2011), and a PGCE in Further Education (2006). His academic roles include teaching on the MSc in Digital Education and designing MOOCs such as 'E-learning and Digital Cultures' on Coursera.
His research explores themes like the sociomateriality of educational technologies, critical data studies, and the ethical dimensions of learning analytics. Current projects include 'Lecture Recording for Inclusive Education' and 'Edinburgh Pulse' (IoT technology for smart campuses). He has secured grants totaling over £1M, including leadership roles in the 'Learning Analytics Report Card' (LARC) and 'Supporting Higher Education to Integrate Learning Analytics' (SHEILA).
Key areas of supervision include digital higher education, MOOCs, and posthumanist theory. His work has been presented globally, including keynote addresses at the University of Cambridge, Beijing Normal University, and the International Conference on MOOCs. He has published widely, with a focus on reimagining education through critical posthumanist lenses.
