Jeremy Gilbert is a Professor and Hansjörg Wyss Endowed Chair for Regenerative Medicine at Clemson University, where he directs the Clemson-MUSC Bioengineering Program. His research focuses on metallic biomaterials, tribocorrosion, implant retrieval analysis, and cell-surface interactions in medical devices.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University (1987)
- M.E. in Metallurgical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University (1983)
- B.S. in Engineering Science, SUNY at Buffalo (1981)
Research Interests:
His lab develops advanced testing methods for metallic implants, specializing in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, fretting corrosion modeling, and inflammation-induced degradation. Key areas include orthopedic/spinal implant performance, oxide film stability, and anti-infection electrochemical therapies.
Scientific Contributions:
- Over 20 peer-reviewed articles in 2022-2023 alone
- Developed patented rapid impedance testing technology
- Over 10 U.S. patents for orthopedic implants and corrosion prevention
- Invited lectures at The Hip Society, NACE, and Society for Biomaterials
