Professor Jeremy Farrall is a leading scholar of international law at the ANU College of Law, Australian National University, specializing in UN Security Council governance, sanctions, and rule of law in conflict settings. His research examines power dynamics within international institutions and legal frameworks for peacebuilding.
He holds a BA/LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and PhD from the University of Tasmania. With prior UN experience as Political Affairs Officer in New York (2001-2004) and Liberia (2004-2006), he brings practical insight to his analysis of Security Council operations.
Current research investigates influence mechanisms for elected Security Council members, backlash against international law, and pandemic response in global governance. His publications demonstrate consistent focus on sanctions reform, accountability frameworks, and legal adaptation in multilateral institutions.
Principal investigator on major ARC projects including 'Leveraging Power and Influence on the UN Security Council' and 'Strengthening the Rule of Law through the UN Security Council'. Supervises PhD candidates researching post-conflict policing and international law reform.
