Stephen J. Stedman is a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and a Professor (by courtesy) of Political Science at Stanford University. He serves as Director of the Fisher Family Honors Program in Democracy, Development, and Rule of Law at CDDRL and will lead the Program on International Relations in the School of Humanities and Sciences starting Fall 2025. His expertise spans global security, democracy promotion, and conflict resolution, with notable roles including Director of the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy, and Security (2011-12), Research Director of the UN High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges, and Change (2003-04), and Assistant Secretary-General at the UN (2005). His work emphasizes transnational threats, electoral integrity, and institutional reforms. He co-authored *Power and Responsibility: Building International Order in an Era of Transnational Threats* (2009) and contributed to landmark UN reports like *A More Secure World* (2004). His research bridges academia and policy, addressing contemporary challenges in global governance and peacebuilding.
