Jens Prüfer is a Professor of Economics at the University of East Anglia's School of Economics, serving as Deputy Director of the Centre for Competition Policy and Director of the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC). His research focuses on institutional economics, organizational structures, law & economics, and the impact of datafication on markets, democracy, and policy. He holds a PhD from Goethe University Frankfurt and has held academic positions at Tilburg University, including roles as Associate and Assistant Professor.
Education: PhD in Economics, Goethe University Frankfurt (2005); Diplom-Volkswirt (M.Sc. equivalent), University of Tübingen (2001).
Research Interests: Institutional Economics, Organizational Economics, Law & Economics, Competition Policy, Political Economics, Data Science, and Digital Markets. His work examines governance mechanisms, competition dynamics, and the role of data in societal systems.
External Collaborations: DFG-Mercator Fellow at the University of Passau (2022–2027), member of TILEC since 2006, and contributor to EU policy initiatives. He advises on competition policy and digital platforms through roles like the EU Observatory on the Online Platform Economy.
Labs/Teams: Leads TILEC and actively participates in the Economic Theory Group and Industrial Economics research clusters.
