Jenny Sabin is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Design Tech at Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). She leads the Sabin Lab and is Principal of Jenny Sabin Studio, an experimental architecture firm focusing on bioinspired design and material innovation. Her work bridges architecture, biology, and computation, emphasizing adaptive materials, sustainability, and responsive systems. Sabin holds degrees from the University of Washington (BFA, Ceramics; B.A.) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.Arch). She has received prestigious awards, including the Pew Fellowship in the Arts (2010) and the USA Knight Fellowship (2011).
Her research includes NSF-funded projects on Kirigami geometry and energy-efficient materials, such as the HelioSkin PV panel system inspired by plant biology. Notable works include Lumen (MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program, 2017) and installations at the Centre Pompidou and Cooper Hewitt Design Museum. She teaches courses on digital fabrication, biosynthetic design, and material computation.
Awards and grants highlight her contributions to architecture and science, including the EFRI ODISSEI (2013–18) and EFRI-SEED (2010–14) grants. Her interdisciplinary collaborations span cell biology, robotics, and engineering.
