George L. Legendre is a Professor in Practice of Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. He is a founding partner of IJP Architects, a London-based firm exploring intersections between architecture, mathematics, and computation. Previously, he held roles as lecturer and Assistant Professor at Harvard (1995–2000), visiting professor at ETH Zurich and Princeton University, and Unit Master at the AA School of Architecture in London.
Education: M.Arch from Harvard Graduate School of Design (1994).
Research focuses on parametric design, geometric structures, and the application of mathematical principles in architecture. His work spans built projects like the Henderson Waves bridge in Singapore and the Dubai Creek Harbour Central Footbridge, alongside theoretical contributions such as Pasta by Design and Mathematical Form.
His publications bridge architecture, art, and science, appearing in journals like ARQ, The New Scientist, and AD Magazine. Awards include finalist status in the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program and recognition as a future vanguard in UK architecture.
Teaching includes courses on algorithmic design and the future of work, while exhibitions curated include The Mathematics of Sensible Things (2010) and Dazibao (2018). Ongoing projects emphasize innovative material systems and large-scale urban structures.
