Jennifer Stemmann

Professor Jennifer Stemmann is a faculty member at the University of Education Freiburg, holding the Professorship for Technology and its Didactics. She serves as Head of Studies and Central Equal Opportunities Officer. Stemmann leads research initiatives at the Research Center for Climate Change Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ReCCE) and contributes significantly to technical education research in Germany.

Her educational background includes a Dipl.-Ing. in Vocational Education for Mechanical Engineering from TU Dortmund (2004-2009) and a Dr. phil. (summa cum laude) from the University of Duisburg-Essen (2016). She has progressed from research positions at TU Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen to her current professorship since 2020.

Stemmann's research focuses on empirical learning research in technical education contexts, particularly examining learning in computer-simulated environments, digital technology integration, technical problem-solving processes, motivational factors in technical action, and competence assessment for sustainable technical practices. Her work bridges educational theory with practical applications in technology education.

Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on climate literacy assessment, digital competence development for technical education teachers, technical problem-solving skills, and gender differences in technical contexts. The research shows a clear trajectory toward integrating sustainability education with technical problem-solving skills and digital learning environments.

Stemmann actively supervises numerous bachelor's and master's theses on topics ranging from technical problem-solving to climate education in textbooks. Her research is supported by multiple funding sources including BMBF and DFG for projects like AdUmint, MINT-ProNeD, and TPL-basics.

She is deeply involved with the Research Center for Climate Change Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ReCCE), where she serves as Vice Director since 2022. This center represents her commitment to integrating climate education with technical problem-solving skills development.
