Elena Meister serves as an Academic Staff Member and Chair of the Doctoral Students' Convention at the Department of Technology within the Research Center for Climate Change Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ReCCE) at the University of Education Freiburg. Her office is located in room KG IV, 205, with contact available via +49 761 682-219 or elena.meister@ph-freiburg.de by appointment.
Her educational background includes:
- M.A. in Educational Sciences (Teaching and Learning) from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (2018-2021)
- B.A. in Education and Upbringing from Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg (2012-2015)
Meister's research centers on climate change education and sustainable development education through STEM learning environments. She investigates how adaptive digital systems can foster students' experimental competencies and self-efficacy when addressing climate-related challenges. Her work bridges educational theory with practical applications for climate education, examining how students develop confidence and skills through hands-on experimentation with real-world environmental problems. She particularly focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of STEM competencies required for climate solutions.
Her publication pattern reveals a concentrated research trajectory focused on the AdUmint project, with publications evolving from specific climate applications (insulation materials, route planning) toward broader theoretical frameworks about experimentation competencies in digital STEM education. All her work maintains a consistent thread connecting climate education, experimental learning, and psychological factors like self-efficacy.
Meister is principal investigator on the AdUmint research project (Adaptive Support in STEM Learning Environments to Promote Experimental Competence and Self-Efficacy), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with project number 16MF1039 (August 2022-July 2025). The project involves collaboration with Silke Mikelsiks-Seifert, Felix Nell, Wolfram Rollet, Katja Scharenberg, Jennifer Stemmann, Oliver Strasser, and Nadine Tramowsky.
She teaches TEC 520 - Current Issues in Technical Didactics regularly since winter semester 2023/2024 and maintains active profiles on ResearchGate, XING, and LinkedIn, demonstrating engagement with both German and international educational research communities focused on sustainability education.
