Jennifer R. Marlon is a Senior Research Scientist, Lecturer, and Director of Data Science at the Yale School of the Environment and the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC). She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Geography from the University of Oregon. Her work bridges climate science and communication, focusing on public perceptions of climate change, wildfire dynamics via sediment records, and environmental data visualization. She co-leads the Global Charcoal Database, an international initiative analyzing fire regimes across geological time.
Her research integrates surveys, experiments, and modeling to study responses to extreme weather (e.g., hurricanes, heatwaves) and climate misinformation. She also examines fire-ecology interactions, including historical shifts from climate- to human-driven fire patterns. Over 70 peer-reviewed publications appear in journals like Science, Nature Climate Change, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Teaching includes Environmental Data Visualization for Communication (YSE) and Biology, the World, and Us (Yale College). She directs data science initiatives and advises projects like the Yale Climate Opinion Maps. Affiliations include the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies, emphasizing interdisciplinary environmental research.
