Jennifer McCaney

Jennifer McCaney is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UCLA Anderson School of Management and holds a dual appointment in the Department of Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. She serves as co-executive director of UCLA Biodesign, a joint initiative promoting leadership and entrepreneurship in health care technology, and as associate director of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

Her educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University (2010)
• M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of New South Wales (2005)
• M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT (2004, 2002)
• B.S. in Management Science from MIT Sloan School of Management (2002)

McCaney specializes in the convergence of technology and medicine, with research interests spanning digital transformation, entrepreneurship, health care management, medical technology, and venture capital. Her work focuses on early-stage company formation and technology development in health care, particularly in digital health, medical devices, diagnostics, and care delivery transformation.

She has received the Fulbright Scholarship and currently leads the i6 Challenge Grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to catalyze a regional medical technology ecosystem in Southern California.

As an educator, McCaney serves as a faculty advisor to Anderson student teams in the UCLA Biodesign Business Creation Capstone track and teaches courses in Health Care Technology and Technology Commercialization & Innovation. She is also the founding director of the MedTech Innovator Accelerator and works closely with industry partners including Johnson & Johnson, Amgen, and Baxter.

McCaney co-leads the UCLA Biodesign program, which offers a one-year fellowship for business, engineering, design, and medical professionals, leveraging the clinical resources of UCLA Health's four hospitals and 190 clinics.
