Dr. Renea Michelle Sturm is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA specializing in Pediatric Urology and Minimally Invasive Urology. Her clinical practice focuses on children with congenital defects involving the kidneys, bladder, and genitalia, with expertise in robotic-assisted and endoscopic surgery, complex hypospadias repair, and urinary tract reconstruction. She provides care at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital and locations in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
Dr. Sturm earned her undergraduate degree from Rice University and MD from Baylor College of Medicine. She completed urology residency at UC Davis, pediatric urology fellowship at Lurie Children's Hospital of Northwestern University, and Biodesign fellowship at UCLA focused on medtech entrepreneurship.
Her research spans translational and clinical robotic surgery, reconstructive surgery, kidney stone management, tissue engineering, and immunomodulation. As a physician-scientist, she leads federally-funded bench-to-bedside research with a focus on improving equity and quality in urologic surgery. Her work on elastic biomaterials for urinary tract applications earned her recognition as a 2022 Outstanding Graduate Scholar by the American Urological Association.
Dr. Sturm's publication portfolio demonstrates strong focus on pediatric urologic conditions, particularly hypospadias repair and bladder reconstruction. Her recent work spans biomaterials development, 3D printing applications, robotic-assisted procedures, and quality improvement initiatives that address surgical variability across institutions.
