Dr. Jennifer Martyn is an Assistant Professor in the School of Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies at Dublin City University (DCU), specializing in Sociolinguistics and Applied Linguistics. She teaches linguistics and applied French, with a focus on ethics and sustainability. Her academic journey includes a BA in French and English from NUI Galway and a PhD in Sociolinguistics and Second Language Acquisition from University College Dublin (UCD), supported by an Irish Research Council scholarship.
Her research explores sociolinguistics of language education, discourses of language learning, and intersections of language with identity, gender, and sexuality. Notable publications include her 2022 monograph Discourses, Identities and Investment in Foreign Language Learning and the 2016 edited volume Language, Identity and Migration. She co-authored a textbook on multilingualism and serves as a reviewer for key linguistics journals and series.
