Jennifer Keller is a Senior Lecturer of Secondary Education at the University of Vermont's Department of Education within the College of Education and Social Services. She holds a PhD in Environmental Studies from Antioch University, an MS in Environmental Studies (Antioch University), an MAT in Earth Science (Stony Brook University), and a B.S. in Marine Science (Long Island University). Her teaching philosophy emphasizes participatory, culturally sustaining frameworks and place-based learning to foster critical inquiry and solutions to societal and ecological challenges.
Dr. Keller's research focuses on integrating nature-based mindfulness practices like forest bathing into educational settings. Her work employs participatory action research (PAR) to collaborate with teachers, students, and communities, particularly in addressing adolescent mental health during the pandemic. She has published on the effects of forest bathing on adolescent well-being and nature connection. Earlier research contributions include studies on Cretaceous-era plant fossils and their ecological contexts.
Notable honors include the Climate and Equity Fellowship (TERC, 2023–2024), Presidents Doctoral Fellowship (Antioch University, 2019–2021), and New York State Master Teacher Award (2016–2020). She teaches courses such as EDSC 2060 (Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment) and EDSC 5209 (Practicum in Teaching). Her affiliations include the National Science Teachers Association and the North American Association for Environmental Education.
