Jennifer Greer is Professor and Dean of the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky, where she leads the School of Journalism and Media. She oversees academic programs, research initiatives, and strategic direction for the college, which includes departments of Communication, Integrated Strategic Communication, School of Information Science, and School of Journalism and Media.
Dr. Greer earned her MA in Political Science from the University of Kansas, Lawrence in 1992 and completed her PhD at the University of Florida in 1996. Prior to her current position at the University of Kentucky, she served in various leadership roles at the University of Alabama including Associate Provost (2014-2019), Interim Dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences (2013-2014), and Department Chair of Journalism (2007-2013). Earlier in her career, she was Acting Dean and faculty member at the Reynolds School of Journalism, University of Nevada, Reno.
Dr. Greer's research focuses on the evolving landscape of journalism and media, particularly examining how digital platforms transform news consumption and production. Her work investigates gender representation in sports media, online newspaper evolution, social media in political communication, and audience perceptions of news credibility. She employs rigorous content analysis and experimental methods to understand how media formats influence information processing and audience attitudes.
