Jennifer Gootman is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University, where she joined in 2024. She brings extensive executive experience in sustainability, ESG strategy, and social impact within global consumer brands.

Jennifer's research and professional work centers on strategic value creation through sustainability. She specializes in integrating environmental and social impact into core business models, with deep expertise in supply chain innovation, human rights, climate resilience, circular economy, and regulatory compliance. Her approach combines corporate strategy with ethical sourcing and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
She has been recognized for her leadership, including being named an Aspen Institute First Movers Fellow. Her advisory and speaking engagements reflect her influence in sustainable business education and practice.
Jennifer has advised NYU Stern’s Center for Sustainable Business and has presented at major forums including SXSW, Fast Company Innovation Festival, National Retail Federation, and academic institutions such as Georgetown University and Parsons School of Design. Her industry experience includes executive roles at Tory Burch, Williams-Sonoma, Inc., and West Elm, where she led ESG strategy and innovation. She pioneered the first Fair Trade-Certified factory program in home retail, co-founded the Nest Standard for Ethical Handcraft, and launched a vision care initiative for hundreds of thousands of factory workers through VisionSpring. Her work helped position Williams-Sonoma, Inc. on Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies list for five consecutive years and in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
Jennifer has over a decade of experience in nonprofit and social enterprise sectors, working in New York, Nicaragua, and India, focusing on design-driven supply chain innovation for impact.
